Pregnancy changes everything about your body and your skin definitely isn’t excluded. The ever-changing hormone levels make you feel highs and lows at the same time, blur your thoughts one minute then clear your mind the next, give you a beauty effect one day and next day you wake up with acne all over your face. Let’s put it as is: it’s a crazy ride.
Creating a pregnancy skincare routine and changing my current skincare products was one of the first things I did after finding out I was pregnant. There are many ingredients that are deemed unsafe during pregnancy and you have to be very careful to check the details on the packages before using anything.
Over the past 8 months, some of the skin changes I’ve experienced were hormonal acne, very dry skin, very oily skin, scarring (aka pregnancy mask), itchiness and frizzy hair. Every day was unpredictable. I also knew I needed to be conscious of possible stretch marks, so add another item to the list! With all this in mind, I did a crazy amount of research for natural products and remedies and have been using a handful of products and recipes in my skincare routine that I swear by.
What makes me happy is that I actually learned a great deal about natural skincare over the course of this time and will keep using these products from now on too!
I’d love to share the list for aynone who is in the same boat as myself.
My pregnancy skincare routine & products I’ve loved
Moisture for the belly
1st trimester: Vitamin E Skin Oil by Derma-E (vitamin E is absorbed very fast, so it hasn’t left any stains on my clothes)
2nd & 3rd trimesters: L’Occitane Almond Supple Skin Oil (this is a product I loved before pregnancy too, but have used it regularly during this time – it smells amazing and feels amazing) & Earth Mama Belly Butter (great cream, no smell, skin absorbs very fast)
Moisture for the face
Rosehip Seed Oil by Kosmea (I used it after showers for extra hydration and softness)
LaNeige Water Bank Gel Cream (best moisturizer I’ve ever used in my life – solved the dryness in just 1 day and feels amazing on my skin!)
LaNeige Lip Sleeping Mask (smells beautiful and fixes dry lips instantly)
Cleaning the face
Acne & Scars
Vitamin C Serum by All Natural Advice (anti-aging, anti-wrinkles and skin health)
Cinnamon & Honey mask (this feels amazing afterwards)
Ingredients: 1 tsp of cinnamon powder– 2 tsp of honey
Method: Mix cinnamon powder and honey in one bowl and blend them well. Wet your face by using warm water and then apply it on the face using your fingertips. Keep the mask on for around 10-15 minutes and rinse it off by using warm water.
Pregnancy helped me to improve my knowledge about skincare…
…and I’m very glad it did! I’ll definitely continue using natural products and relying on essentials oils from now on. How did your skincare routine change during pregnancy and which products felt best for your skin? Do share in the comments!
